A Google Business Profile checklist for local businesses

Ten things to check on your Google Business Profile so nearby customers can find, trust and contact you.

When someone nearby searches for what you sell, the map results often get the first calls. Your Google Business Profile decides whether you appear there and whether people choose you. Here's what to check.

Basics

Business name exactly as it appears on your signboard, without extra keywords. Google can suspend profiles for keyword stuffing.

The right primary category, plus a few accurate secondary ones.

Correct address, phone number, website and opening hours, including special hours for festivals.

Content

Services or products listed with short descriptions.

Recent, real photos of the outside, inside, team and work. Replace old or blurry photos.

A short description that says what you do, who it's for and where you are.

A Google post every week or two, such as an offer, update or tip.

Reviews

Ask happy customers for a review, every time, with a direct link. Never buy or fake reviews.

Reply to every review, good or bad, politely and without sharing private details.

Keep it current

Check the profile once a month. Customers and Google can suggest edits, and wrong changes sometimes go live without you noticing.
